Elk River Tributaries Restoration Project
Antrim Conservation District Staff recently completed this Michigan Department of Environmental Quality 319 Grant. Through this grant fourteen best management practice sites were installed. These projects reduced over 250 tons of sediment and 70 pounds of chemicals from entering the Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed. The final two projects were installed in the summer of 2008 and were a great success.

Beals Lake Access
Recreational traffic created erosion problems at this site. To address the issues large boulders were placed in the drive to restrict vehicle access. A floating dock was installed to reduce foot traffic at the shoreline. This project was implemented in partnership with Antrim County, Echo Township, Landtech Engineering, and Lakeshore Marine Construction.

Alden Rain Garden
Storm drains in Alden continually filled with debris and caused flooding on Coy and Helena Streets. The water would collect and flow directly into Spencer Creek eroding banks and allowing pollutants to enter the creek. To address these issues a double terrace rain garden was installed. This project was implemented in partnership with Alden Bank, Alden Bar, Troy Molby Engineering, Bruce’s Excavating, Helena Township and the Alden Volunteers.
